On 9th November, Poet, Writer and Art Critic, Nancy Campbell will join us to discuss the role of art residencies as an opportunity to research climate change in the polar regions. Campbell’s experiences during notable residences in Greenland, Iceland and Denmark in particular have been explored through a range of artists’ books, art writing, and other texts, including The Library of Ice (published on 1st November 2018) which considers architecture, art and the environment. This has subsequently led onto a further research project into cold at the Bodleian. Campbell will offer insight of her experiences with the residencies she has undertaken, whilst also contextualising her work with other contemporary artists responding to the issue of climate change.
Nancy Campbell’s books include the poetry collection Disko Bay (shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Fist Collection 2016) and How To Say ‘I Love You’ In Greenlandic (winner of the Birgit Skiöld Award). The Library of Ice: Readings from a Cold Climateis published this autumn. Nancy writes on visual art for galleries and journals including the Royal Academy and the Times Literary Supplement, and was for several years editor of the magazine Printmaking Today.
There will be a limited number of The Library of Ice available to purchase at the talk.
