OVADA runs a popular Contemporary Painting Course. Three established tutors, who are all practicing Artists from Oxford and London, each run individual projects with the group. Each term will combine both projects and workshops, aiming to encourage confidence in using the tools of the trade while exploring varied themes and experimental approaches to contemporary painting.

COURSE DETAILS
The course takes place over three separate terms. Each term is 8 weeks long and will run weekly on

Tuesdays from 10am – 4pm.

Places: Minimum 7 – Maximum 10

Materials provided: solvents (for safety reasons we use Zest-It rather than Turpentine/White Spirit), gesso, acrylic mediums, small boards, household paints, paper, charcoal/graphite and use of easels/brushes.

Materials not provided: artist’s paints (either oil or acrylic can be used; interchangeable throughout the course) and canvases. Participants may prefer to use their own brushes. Additional costs may include study trips and materials needed for individual projects – we will aim to keep these costs as low as possible.

COURSE OUTLINE
The focus will be on discovering current concerns and experimental approaches to painting. This course is aimed at those with some experience of painting but who are committed to exploring the subject in more depth.

A variety of ideas, processes and techniques will be explored. The Course might also suit artists who have a practice that doesn’t include painting but who might wish to find new skills in this area.

Class participants are encouraged to allow time to work on the projects between sessions. There is limited storage available at OVADA so participants will be required to take their equipment home at the end of each session, unless work is drying.
