I am at the start of my encore career. Having worked in advertising, corporate identity and subsequently in food manufacturing and product design, I have now found a new role.
I have always had a passion for drawing and an interest in the arts but had thought of this more as a leisure pursuit rather than a profession. WAS7 has changed that and opened my eyes to the very real possibility of art as a career. I have thoroughly enjoyed being exposed to all sorts of new art forms and being immersed in projects which take me out of my comfort zone and challenge me both in terms of learning how to do something but also the ideas and thoughts behind what I produce. Learning to navigate through the uncomfortable moments has been enlightening and I feel a desire to learn and continue investigating the materials I use and the themes and ideas which emerge from the work I produce.
Moving forward to the end of my first year, I have a better sense of what lies behind my work and an open attitude to where it may lead.
My work is about the world I inhabit, my family and their stories, my daily routine and the emotions that swirl around inside me, my experiences of day to day life and how I deal with the good, the bad and the ugly. My work is a way for me to express what I am feeling without having to verbalise it. It is liberating, exhilarating and frightening in equal measure. It is opening a door into the unknown.
