OVADA Art Talks – Jan Crombie
19 May at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Our artist talk series is moving online!
The talks will be held on ‘ZOOM‘ – a widely used video communication platform.
As part of our ongoing series of informal weekday morning talks, we invite professionals working in the creative industries to talk about their projects and contemporary practices. The series provides insights into specific cross-disciplinary areas of the arts and culture sector.
I was born in London and after graduating in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College London I have maintained an arts practice over four decades. As a child I spent time in Vienna with my family who were all artists. Recently I have been shortlisted for the Castlegate Prize 2020, the Wells Contemporary 2019, the Threadneedle Prize 2012. I have exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery, Camden Arts Centre The Glass Tank Oxford Brookes University, the New Hall Art Collection Cambridge and had residencies in Italy, Germany and Holland.
I am interested in everyday oddness, discomfort and contradictions. I draw observe and document the people and spaces that surround me, these mutate on the canvas as they combine with internal imagined landscapes and characters. These imagined characters and their stories are the subject of paintings drawings and clay sculptures. Colour is my main route to exploring the emotional secrets of my subconscious.
Tuesday 19th May, 11am
The duration of the talk will last 30 minutes, and a following 10 minutes for questions.
We are introducing a small charge to attend the talks series.
All of the proceeds from this event will be used to support OVADA during this challenging time.
This event ‘OVADA Art Talks’ is part of a series of talks programmed by Art writer Romina Provenzi.
PLEASE NOTE: To attend these talks you must download ‘Zoom’ either on a mobile device (via the app store) or sign up online – this is a FREE platform but does require prior registration.
