Skills on Wheels: Beaded Bracelet-Making
The beaded bracelet workshop was a hands-on experience inspired by traditional craft practices from Lagos, Nigeria. Guided by Amy Harris (Oxford Brookes University), participants were invited to slow down, learn a simple beading technique, and enjoy the experience of making together in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Rooted in the Skills on Wheels project—a collaboration between Oxford Brookes University and Molaloche Concepts—the workshop highlighted how traditional craft skills can support sustainability, empowerment, and cross-cultural exchange. Participants learned about Skills on Wheels, a mobile craft school based in Lagos that works with women and young people, using craft as a tool for opportunity, confidence, and community.
The session welcomed people of all skill levels, with all materials provided, and created a relaxed atmosphere where conversations, creativity, and cultural exchange flourished. By making together, participants reconnected with ethical, hand-crafted traditions and became part of a wider global community connected through shared skills, knowledge, and stories. The workshop was a rewarding celebration of craft, learning, and connection.
