TEMPORARY GROUND: OVADA SUMMER RESIDENCY 2026 EXHIBITION 27 August - 29 August 2026

OVADA’s Warehouse has been home to our summer residents throughout August offering space to experiment, reflect and create new work. This exhibition brings together the outcomes of that time — glimpses into evolving practices, unfinished explorations and fresh directions.

Bringing together the works of 10 artists-in-residence, Temporary Ground featured a selection of new and pre-existing pieces from:

Melissa Barraza Pippa Hetherington Esther Keeley Pearl Lippin

Serin Lim Tom Magrane Louis Paton Ana Sekulic Jane Thomas

and Bronte Wyse

Across this year’s residency and exhibition, questions of place, memory, identity and transformation surfaced in a variety of forms. Our artists-in-residence drew on personal histories, environment and space, as well as material process, all the while drawing on the residency itself as a context for research and development. Rather than presenting a single theme, Temporary Ground revealed a set of diverse and overlapping approaches, a snapshot of the different ways artists make sense of their experiences and surroundings.

The scale and character of the OVADA warehouse played an important role in the development of many of the projects. For some, the residency became a site for ambitious installation and spatial experimentation. Others found it provided the time and distance needed to rethink existing ideas and start on new lines of inquiry. Temporary Ground showcased these evolving practices and processes, bringing together works that reflected both individual introspection and the collective experience of the residency.

Ten artists working across installation, painting, writing, film and sculpture
