Voices of Iran

Voices of Iran was an evening of food and art that brought people together to listen and uplift Iranian voices within our community. At a time when many in the Iranian diaspora were holding deep concern for loved ones far away, the event created a gentle and welcoming space to come together.

The evening centred on connection, culture, and care. Through poetry, storytelling, art, and food, Iranian participants shared aspects of their heritage and lived experience. These moments of expression offered a way to gather and listen, and to sit with one another during a time that felt heavy and uncertain for many.

This was not a political event. Instead, it was about being together — recognising that culture, language, music, and food can offer comfort and connection when words are hard to find. The evening also reflected on the fact that the Iranian experience is part of a much wider story of diasporas around the world.

The evening included shared traditional dishes brought potluck‑style, an open mic for poetry, performance, and music, a celebration of Iranian artists, and collaborative art activities open to all ages.

The event organisers noted that “[their] aim was to encourage connection, awareness, and open dialogue in an inclusive environment… The atmosphere remained thoughtful and respectful throughout, reflecting the spirit we hoped to create.”
