What? Artists Carrie Stanley and Charlotte Houlihan are coming together to lead an exciting weekend drawing workshop. Both are dynamic and expressive artists who explore figuration through a wide variety of media using  experimental processes. Focusing on the figure and using an array of exotic plants and leaves as props this workshop promises to be fun and immersive, colourful and brave.

You will use mixed media and different substrates over the course of the weekend to explore multi angled layered poses, drawings built up through sheets of transparencies, collaged compositions and more. There will be a live model to draw from during these sessions.

Who? All welcome; no experience necessary; age 16+ (under 18s should attend with an adult). Max group size: 12.

Materials: You are encouraged to bring the following:

  • drawing materials dry

  • graphite sticks

  • graphite pencils

  • willow charcoal

  • coloured pencils

  • water soluble crayon

  • water soluble graphite

  • inks 

We do have some materials at OVADA, if you do not have any of the above materials then please get in touch and we will do our best to help!

Meet the Facilitator: Carrie Stanley is a fine artist and mentor based in Hove. Her work embraces expressive and spontaneous drawing and oil painting practises inspired by memory and her family. Her focus is on transmuting personal experiences through the process of making a work into its new material reality. Then journey of a work is of primary importance. She is a member of Oxford Art Society and ArtCan and an active tutor both online and through workshops. She has representation through Zuleika gallery and has exhibited at Mall galleries, Blenheim Palace and Trinity Buoy Wharf amongst many other places.

Meet the Facilitator: Charlotte Houlihan is an expressive figurative painter whose work is defined by a playful exploration of colour and lusciousness of paint. She is a mother to two children in a neurodiverse household where she juggles her roles as artist, tutor and primary carer. People the figure and human nature are important themes and her work evolves from studies and observations from life. Charlotte tutors a variety of classes across life drawing, painting and mixed media. Her work has been included in the New English Art Club annual exhibitions and she is a member of Oxford Art Society.
